Balchik hotels- the pearl on the northen Bulgarian coast
Occupying a succession of sandy cliffs and crumbling sugar-loaf hills, Balchk`s white spread cottages hover precipitously above a series of ravines running down to the sea. This ancient town is situated at about 50 km to the northeast of the town of Varna. Close to Balchik are the famous resorts Albena, Russalka, Golden Sands the mud-cure Touzlata.

Created 2 600years ago Balchik is a successor of the Thracian from the village Krounoi (“ the Springs” ) and of the ancient Greek town Dionysopolis ( in honor of the god of the vine ) Situated in a suitable bay between beautiful white hills, the town is an attractive place from the deep antiquity until nowadays. Here put up the Roman poet Ovidius, Saint Atanassios, Saint Andrew. The first-named Ovidius called it “ The White Town “. By the 6th c. Ad, the harbor had silted up, and the Turks were subsequently to dub the town Balchik, or “ Town of Clay ”. The unique nature, the ancient history and today`s romance of the town are a constant source of inspiration to writers, poets and artists. Since the ancient times Balchi k is the town of people in love.
Sightseeing in the town : National Revival Complex ( consisting of a reconstructed 19th c. schoolhouse and the cage for unruly pupils )which shares a pleasant garden with the Church of St. Nikola ; the History Museum ( containing marble and bronze statuary from Dionysopolis and a torso of the deity himself ), the Ethnographic Museum ( displaying traditional local costumes and reconstructed 19th c. peasant interiors) and the Art Gallery ( featuring icons from local churches ).
Eating and drinking in Balchik tend to be concentrated on the seafront path west of the port where several outdoor restaurants and cafes serve grilled fish, coffe and spirits until late : Lotos, Morsko oko, Roma Club and many others.
The Calm Nest Palace with a beautiful Botanical garden is one of the most visited places in Balchik. It is a palace built on the Romanian Queen Maria`s order, combining Bulgarian, Oriental and Gothic elements. This corner of Bulgarian land is generously granted with ancient trees, climbing bushes, fine flowers, plenty of water, freshness and silence. There is a rich collection of cactuses in the Botanical garden. Roses make a particular impression by their variety and beauty. One of the best creations of human thought and talent, the Calm or Quiet Nest is an expression of serenity, romanticism, intimacy, unpretentiousness and beauty. Human labor was employed to smooth just a few roughness of nature to make the environment even closer to man. This was Queen Maria`s wish. Besides, the exhilarating soft music of the sea is magically blended with bird`s songs and the sounds of the rippling waterfalls among the steep shores apparent serenity.
